Compile de l'été #9 : Oh man ! man man ! maman !

L'album s'appelle Six demon bag.Man Man :Van Helsing Boombox (mp3)

Information Leafblower : Top 40 American Bands

Information Leafblower has put together his annual list of The Top 40 Bands in America. MOKB contributed, and some of our favorite American bands made the list, but I must haved missed the part where we comment on our selections. I can't disagree with who made the list, but I of course take issue with certain band's rankings. That's how these things shake out though when you have a whole bunch of people rank bands. It's supposed to be based on American bands that were "active" during 2006Some music from some of the bands:The Hold Steady - Stuck Between Stations (Live On The Current)Sleater Kinney - EntertainOkkervil River - No Key, No PlanVoxtrot - The Start Of SomethingBishop Allen - Things Are What You Make Of ThemSufjan Stevens - That Was The Worst Christmas EverAberdeen City - God Is Going To Get Sick Of MeMan Man - Van Helsing BoomboxLavendar Diamond - You Broke My HeartCar Stereo (Wars) - Ghostface ObservatoryGirl Talk - Bounce ThatTapes N Tapes - InsistorShearwater - White WavesMargot & The Nuclear So & Sos - Skeleton KeyMusic Tech News:Apple has announced a deal with six major airlines that will allow for iPod connectivity to in-flight entertainment systems by the middle of 2007.

Pygmalion Music Festival : Sept 20 - 23, 2006

Curated by Nicodemus Agency & Polyvinyl Record Co. in Champaign-Urbana, IL. MOKB was asked to be a promotional partner in the Pygmalion Music Festival, a great Midwest music fest. Thanks, we're delighted and flattered. It's a great lineup and I'm looking forward to being there! Here's the offical press release and the schedule with sample mp3s:Conviently located at the center of the Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis triangle, and the home to the University of Illinois it no wonder that C-U has fostered one of the most productive and innovative indie rock scenes in the country. As early as the late 80’s the C-U indie scene began to flourish with artists ranging from The Didjits (Touch & Go), to Titanic Love Affair, whose leader Jay Bennett went on to help Wilco create some of the most innovative albums of the past twenty years. As the 90's approached, C-U developed what was called by Rolling Stone, Howard Stern and a host of others as "The Champaign Sound". The list included HUM, The Poster Children, Honcho Overload, Menthol, The Moon Seven Times, Lovecup, and then later, Castor, Sarge, Braid, Very Secretary, National Skyline and Absinthe Blind. And the 00’s have brought indie powerhouse Polyvinyl Record Co. to set up shop in C-U. On top of that the scene has seen a resurgence as of late launching up and coming bands such as Headlights, The Living Blue, Lorenzo Goetz, and The Elanors to name a few. The Champaign-Urbana scene never stops growing, despite its natural ebb and flow. In reaction to that, the Nicodemus Agency carved out their own special niche in the world of independent rock, showcased by hosting their very own music festival: Pygmalion Music Festival. Now in its sophomore year, the Nicodemus Agency has upped the ante for Pygmalion by inviting even more artists from afar and expanding it to more venues. To top it off, Nicodemus Agency has teamed up with Polyvinyl Record Co. to co-curate this year’s festivities. The festival sponsor list has grown considerably this year as well. Bringing on such well regarded publications as Under The Radar, and Playback STL, as well as taste making websites like You Ain’t No Picasso, My Old KY Blog, Indieworkshop and Daytrotter. Spanning four days and half a dozen venues on Sept 20th-23rd, the festival will feature hot indie acts such as Of Montreal, Man Man, Danielson, Murder By Death, David Bazan, Owen, Headlights, and Metal Hearts to name a few. Best of The '06 Half Year

So, I've been putting this off. Mainly because I'm kind of over lists right now and they're completely meaningless. If you read MOKB regularly, you know what I like, so why is it so important to rank them? Because that's what bloggers do. We rank and analyze and report, then you tell us how stupid we are. I love that part actually.Anyway, I know I have access. More than most, so I might have heard things you haven't or that aren't out yet, I apologize if it bothers you that I might have included things that aren't out yet. I lose track of release dates. They come in the mail or my email and I listen. Just remember that this is only my opinion, not the word of God. My opinion flucuates faster than most politicians. An added note to anyone who thinks it's been a slow year or a "down" year for good music: You are sorely mistaken. This was impossibly tough for me because there are numerous albums in the Honorable Mention category below that could and might easily work there way even into my Top 10 by the end of the year. Plenty of these may fall out of favor, and maybe it is slighty skewed to what I'm into right now, but really look at that Honorable Mention list because there are some real gems that I know many of you will feel belong in the Top 25.So here we go...25. Man Man - Six Demon Bag

My obsession this week has been Man Man...they're like old europe's past crossed with music's future. I'm really looking forward to the new album, Six Demon Bag, as everything I've heard is excellent. I gotta believe that these guys would blow my socks off live and will make it my mission to see that happens in the future. Best description from Are You Familiar: A live act featuring four players, Man Man are almost impossible to describe; their music is at once pop, experimental, indie, and just plain bizarre. Imagine The Decemberists really did get lost at sea in the 18th century, were forced to make their own instruments out of driftwood and animal parts, went slightly insane, and developed a taste for the circus.Man Man's MySpace is pretty funny. Here are three of the songs off the new album and a few older ones from their S/T album. You need to listen to them all...I mean it...do it. do it. do it.Man Man - Spider CiderMan Man - Van Helsing BoomboxMan Man - Engwish BwuddMan Man - ZebraMan Man - I, ManfaceMan Man - 10 lb.
