As another year comes to it’s close it seems appropriate now to collect my favorite songs of 2008. Making these types of lists always proves to be much more of an arduous task than I plan for. It’s not only necessary to look back throughout the whole year, but to estimate what might come next and figure who is breaking molds and setting standards. Most of these songs are remixes because that’s what I like. Ultimately, all of these songs are here for the same reason. Because it is as hard for me to end this list as it was for me to start it, I am sure I left something out or fucked it up in some way or another, so I would love to hear your thoughts. The internet is an amazing thing; where some thought it would result in the fall of music, it really did quite the opposite; It created an endless sea of inspiration. It has been far far too long since I put together one of these mixes, and the clubs I have been to in the meantime have been the best I have experienced, from Ibiza to Beirut to Tel Aviv to London - all awesome incl Matter at the O2 if you ever get to go, do). There was a rough mix floating around on my facebook over the summer, but this is the first one for months and months to fulfill the wait. So apologies for the really really long delay, but here it is, finally…Clap to the Electricity Vol.9.
As usual, we have a mixture of some names you could/should have heard of like Van She, Yuksek and Alex Gopher, and some you might not like Flou, The BPA, Prairie Cartel and Trash Yourself. All, as normal - are *great* in their own right. In fact, the Alex Gopher track on here has got to be in my top 5 for the year. Done.
One quick note of interest too - is The BPA (Brighton Port Authority), which is a collaboration project between Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and David Byrne, Dizzee Rascal, Emmy The Great, Iggy Pop, Pete York, Jack Penate, Jamie T, Martha Wainwright, Conan, Olly Hite, Lateef, Ashley Beedle, Simon Thornton, Thomas Gandey, and Justin Robertson. That is one impressive roll call, and I imagine we should be seeing some more of their stuff on TBW in the neat future.

I would really listen to this mix all the way through before looking at the song titles. After having listened to it a few times, I could say that this is a melodious love song mix for the dance-floor. To be quite honest, I’m not really big on dj mixes, but this one’s already rocking my iPod.

In other news, we've started a Twitter account. We have, um, four followers. That's more or less expected, and I don't expect to get loads of followers because our Twitter RSS feed exists primarily for our "Twitter Balloon" widget on the side panel. It's just an outlet for the occasional mini update that won't really merit a full-on post.

That VAN SHE remix I mentioned earlier dropped a lot sooner than anticipated. G.L.O.V.E.S. already had it in the bag but were waiting for the okay from MODULAR to spread the love.
In this edit G.L.O.V.E.S. (aka Yama Indra and one half of DAMN ARMS) keeps the soft tone of the original and adds some flanged filters to boost its dancefloor sensibilities. This track truly lies in a feel good category, like sunshine, soft kittens, and smooches.

New Van She! I love Van She and their feel-good vibes. G.L.O.V.E.S., aka half of Aussie electro-duo Damn Arms, capitalized on said vibe and turned “Changes” into a nice little disco-house number. I highly recommend that you to check out Damn Arms’ Myspace, as their “Destination” demo is amazing.
