Best Of 90's Britpop - Part III
Sorry about the lack of a post yesterday. Got caught up in a lot of family issues and had no computer time...Well, here we are at Part III of a VIII part series. And, I will say we are still on some familiar territory regarding the bands highlighted here. This post brings us to twenty four out of sixty albums picked by Mojo Magazine's special Classic edition which features 60 Greatest 90's Britpop albums. The key to that last sentence is albums not bands. Which is why you will see a repeat of some bands here. I should have used the Blur image for this post. Blur, by far, has the most albums (Modern Life Is Rubbish, Parklife, The Great Escape and Blur) represented in this list and rightfully so. Oasis also has three albums (Definitely Maybe, (What's The Story) Morning Glory and Be Here Now) in this list of sixty. It definitely was a strong rivalry, during this decade, between Oasis and Blur. The remaining thirty six albums hold some surprises, at least to me, and hopefully for you. These are ones that I don't have in my collection but soon will. Some of these are bands that I have not really heard much of or experienced. So, I am playing catch-up regarding some of this decade's music and I don't mind at all. Some interesting notes about this post and some things I didn't know. Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen... reached gold record status and also claimed number four on the UK charts during the summer of 1997. Also, the album claimed the NME album of the year award, beating out Radiohead's OK Computer. It also presented a strong rival to The Verve's - Urban Hymns. Also, to note another fact, was that Oasis's - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? reached number 1 chart status in 1995 and stayed there for three months. And of course we cannot forget that Blur was right in there with there S/T release in 1997. Featuring, Song 2 (which I didn't post because I think just about everyone is familiar with that track) which had American audiences taking note of this great band. There are a ton of other tidbits associated with these great 90's albums. I swear, I could spend a post or two on just one album. If you don't have these albums in your CD collection then I strongly recommend you get them and add them to your collection. 90's Britpop represents such a strong and vital time for music. And, definitely cannot be ignored.Stay tuned in on this series because (as I said above) there definitely will be some bands/albums that I am sure you are not familiar with. I am sure there are some 90's purists out there who are but a bunch of these bands/albums to come were unfamiliar to me.I will try to keep this series running until the end, without anything different in-between. That's not a promise but something that I will try to do. I do hope you are enjoying this series.
