Crawling Can Be Beautiful…
From 2005-2006, my daily routine was nearly unbreakable. I’d wake up, drink coffee, move to either the sofa or my desk, load up Hype Machine and Elbo.ws, and start from the top of the list of mp3’s and go through everything until a few songs hit me. Then, I’d type out what I could conjure about how I felt about the songs. This was before I worried about what “tier” my blog was and whether the stuff I was posting was exclusive or not. After going back and looking at my blog the other night, I think I liked it more back then. So, today I tried out the old routine and I was not disappointed. In fact, I hadn’t even made it through four songs before I found my first track and not two more before I found my second. “Not a bad start”, I thought to myself. The first of today’s finds comes from debut full-length album recently released by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. “Om Nashi Me” is the epic grand finale for the album and by far my favorite track. Take all your favorite elements from Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, and Noah and the Whale and you’ve got “Om Nashi Me”. Throw in a lot of distant vocal chants, delayed out guitars, horns sections set on dreamy, and a whole bunch of tambourines and chimes glistening in the background… and you’ve got me stuck on repeat for a day. The Passion Pit remix of Chairlift’s “Bruises” is everything electro-pop should be. It’s quick, snappy, sugar-laced, and at the same time doesn’t completely override the feel of the original. You just can’t help but to bob your head. I’m also a huge sucker for the ending… hear it for yourself. Chairlift – “Bruises” (Passion Pit Remix)
