OMG!! ONE MONTH AND A HALF! WHERE HAVE I BEEN?? PERU? JUPITER? YOUR BASEMENT? How can I make it up to you? mmm... I know. A good selection of the latest stuff I been listening to! Including a brand new futurecop track and some remixes by breakbot and the twelves!Plenty of good stuff. Love that Matthew Dear track!Futurecop! - Boom!Matthew Dear - DeserterPeter Bjorn And John - It Don't Move MeFrankmusik - Made Her SmileAnnie - Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)Yuksek - Extraball (Breakbot Remix)Van She - Strangers (Yuksek Remix)Fires of Rome - Set in Stone (M83 Remix)Van She - Kelly (M83 Remix)Polly Scattergood - Please Don't Touch (The Golden Filter Remix)For some reason remix of The Tough Alliance reminds me of Whigfield. You dont remember Whigfield? How many times did I listen to Saturday Night back in the days! Cheap 90s house music used to rob my heart and soul. Kinda funny how it was so meaningful to me. Funny also how all the hits from one artist are actually the same songs with different words, and 2 different notes. Wait... what did she just say? "I need you inside me tonight"? WHAAAT?The Tough Alliance - A New Chance (Tanlines Remix)Whigfield - Saturday NightWhigfield - Another DayWhigfield - Think of YouWhigfield - Sexy EyesNow an avalanche of remixes by The Twelves! I also gotta post the original because even The Twelves can not improve this gem! I was surprised to come across their Fleet Foxes remix. I mean it's not a band you'd expect to be remixed, electro style. Fleet Foxes makes me think of lord of the rings, I had to say that. The Twelves have done quite good I must say. La Roux remix is especially hot.A-Ha - Take On Me (The Twelves Remix)A-Ha - Take On MeLa Roux - In For The Kill (The Twelves Remix)Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal (The Twelves Remix)Metric - Help I'm Alive (The Twelves Remix)Cobra Dukes - Leave the Light On (The Twelves Remix)Radiohead - There There (The Twelves Remix)The BPA - He's Frank (The Twelves Remix)Their own productions can be as good as their remixes. The Twelves - When You TalkThe Twelves - Works For MeAnd for the curious people out there.Fleet Foxes - MykonosFleet Foxes - Blue Ridge Mountains--I'm out for now. This one was damn hard to finish. Trawling through the best remixes from 2008 made me realise just how much terrific music we heard last year, and how many brilliant remixes there were to love. So, like Mum always used to say, there's no time like one month into 2009 to finish your list of the best remixes of 2008, son. Wise words, Ma.10. Gameboy/Gamegirl - Fruit Salad (CSK OK Remix)My boy Cassian really brought his A-Game in 2008. He built on his already promising base of infectious electro with a slew of remixes for the likes of Pacific!, Panther DLX, and Snob Scrilla. And then there was this. Jam central. With Gameboy/Gamegirl teaming up with CSK OK it’s an instant party starter.DOWNLOAD9. Bag Raiders - Fun Punch (ZZZ Remix)This stuff is like club music for the cultural elite. A bouyant mix of squirming bass synths and layered piano twinkles, Bag Raiders and ZZZ meeting up to catch some opera. I can’t get over this one. Nobody else is doing this.DOWNLOAD8. Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Youth Remix)I first wised up to Youth back in his DYCE days, namely when he dropped his killer Damn Arms remix, but since then he’s had a double name change and also an about face in his stylistic direction. From dizzying ghetto-electro to this type of shining disco bliss. Seriously exciting.DOWNLOAD7. Muscles - Sweaty (Shazam Remix ft. Reija)Notice all of these remixes so far have come from phenomenally talented Australian producers? Shazam’s sitting pretty at the top of that list right now, thanks to knock-outs like this. Fuck, I still play this one for the sheer delight it brings me. Totally fun, right? And now that Muscles has revealed himself to the insufferable shithead we also suspected he was, there’s even more reason to love this mix.DOWNLOAD6. Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia (Cut Copy Remix)I’ll admit that I called this one too early. Back when, I said this was going to be the remix of the year. And I really did think it was back then. But read the name of the blog. I get excited. A little too easily I guess. But still, this is a real stunner. Cut Copy dropped some major hits last year, many of which were in remix form, and this kind of distills all that we love about Cut Copy remixes into the one jam. Astral synths cruising comfortably upon some insatiable grooves, with plenty of glorious builds and drops, all stretched out like some ridiculously impressive pop bubblegum. Yum yum yum.DOWNLOAD5. Friendly Fires - Paris (Aeroplane Remix)Aeroplane have really stepped it up and shown themselves to be a force in music. From their stellar solo gems to their impeccable reputation with remixes (for Tellier, Rubato, etc.), they've won many hearts over in the last year. And the glistening crown atop them all is this one. Epic, romantic and glorious all at once.DOWNLOAD4. Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance (The Twelves Remix)This one from the Twelves dates back to the very opening of 2008, but it's a testament to the quality of the remix that it's still sticking with us a year later. Yeah it's ubiquitous by now, but nobody will ever call it boring.DOWNLOAD3. Pacific! - Hold Me (Breakbot Remix)With the multitude of remixes he put out in 2008, Breakbot was bound to come in high on this list. Difficult as it was to choose from all of his magnifique mixes (Roche, Lion, Apollo-Gize, Kelly), this remix of Hold Me is still an absolute slice of magic.DOWNLOAD2. The Whitest Boy Alive (Fred Falke Remix)This was an eye-opener, right? Popular opinion had it that Falke was merely the slick bassman behind Alan Braxe's production genius, but this showed another story. Sprawling at eight minutes long, the mesmeric synths and inspired spacing never made it feel long or repetitive for a second.DOWNLOAD1. Van She - Kelly (M83 Remix)/Midnight Juggernauts - Shadows (M83 Remix)As reluctant as I was to wimp out at the end and do this, I just have to. Both these mixes are as close to perfect as you'll hear from 2008. Shadows retreats from the disco and into the wilderness at midnight, encased in vintage M83 gothic-shroud. While Kelly goes from being utterly sublime synth-pop to this vast, kaliediscopic opera, filled with passion and high drama. They're transformative takes, which is exactly what a great remix should be. And that's really just it.DOWNLOAD/DOWNLOAD
